Who to Ask for Resume Reviews

The best people to get resume reviews from are senior computer science students with internship experience or software engineers in the industry. Specifically, those who’ve gone through internship or new grad recruitment cycles themselves and as recently as possible. There are many communities, including Tech Career North 🍁 (through the #resume-cv-reviews Discord channel or Leo’s live YouTube resume reviews), through which you will be able to get reliable reviews from contributors for free.

The following list may be controversial but some sources I’d be wary of and generally avoid:

  • people offering paid resume reviews
  • people outside the tech industry or in roles different from software engineering or recruiting
  • software engineers or former software engineers who are disconnected from the current market and recruiting process

School career advisors can be good or bad. If they're your only option, I'd try to go to multiple advisors because sometimes advice may differ or even be contradictory.
